The present work provides a research on the synthesis of TiC from TiO2 and carbon black, which was carried out by using the high-energy mechanical milling method. The analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns of samples after milling, showed that during the ball milling, the reduction of oxygen content in TiO2 and the formation of other titanium oxides with lower oxygen content were observed. Furthermore, the intermediate phases TiO and TiOxCy are the precursors for the formation of TiC phase particles were appearance. The analysis of DTA curves and X-ray diffraction patterns of samples after DTA, milled for different times, showed that the high-energy mechanical milling not only process reduced the temperature of the synthesis of TiC, but also reduced the oxygen content in the sample-TiC, which corresponds with the increased of carbon content in the sample-TiC reduced and showed by the lattice parameter of sample-TiC increase with the milling time.
