Momentum transfer efficiency in abrasive waterjet cutting

Abrasive waterjet (AWJ) technology is widely used in industry to cut technical materials, to clean contaminated surfaces, to polish hard-to-machine materials, etc, and modeling of the process has been subject of many studies. In this paper, a study on the modeling of momentum transfer efficiency from pure to abrasive waterjet is described. By combining physical-mathematical models and experimental methods, a model for calculation of this momentum transfer is derived. In this study, influences of various jet-parameters as well as the effect of abrasive sizes and types were investigated.
