Fabrication of Cu-Al2O3 composites by processing of planetary ball milling

This paper presents result of research to fabricate Dispersed Al2O3 - Strengthened Cu matrix composites by processing of planetary ball milling. The results revealed that grains of Al2O3 (grain size 0.30 ÷ 0.39 µm) distribute relatively equal in the Cu matrix, which creates effectively high strengthening. After recycling process and sintering, the final received product was Cu - Al2O3 composites. The micro-hardness of the synthesized composites increased with increasing of Al2O3 content, which was the result of dispersion of the fined Al2O3 grain size in Cu matrix. Whereas, the electrical conductivity decreased comparing with pure Cu.
