Determination temperature distribution on PCBN cutting tools in orthogonal turning 9XC hardened alloy steels

In this research, temperature distribution on PCBN cutting tool in orthogonal turning 9XC hardened alloy steels is determined from experiments by PVD coating technique in which the thin films of pure metals work as temperature sensors. Finite element model is constructed to define heat distribution in PCBN cutting tool. The results show that the center of heat distribution within PCBN cutting tool in orthogonal hard turning 9XC alloy steel is on cutting edge where temperature can reach to over 10000C. Numerical model is highly compatible with this of the experimental model since differences between two models do not exceed
7.8%.
